Mini Clinic FAQ's

1. Is a pharmacist-led clinic something new?
New Iowa legislation has modernized the Pharmacy Practice Act. This law allows pharmacists more authority, moving from a restrictive, rule-based system to a standard of care regulatory framework similar to physicians, nurses, and other licensed healthcare providers. It dramatically expands what pharmacists can do.

2. How much will it cost?
You can expect to pay an office visit fee. Services requiring additional cost will be discussed in advance. Simple blood-pressure checks are still free for regular customers. Other rates may vary with services.

3. Will my insurance pay for the visit?
Not at this time. Although the law permits it, most insurance plans have not yet recognized pharmacists as providers of these services. Services are HSA/FSA eligible.

4. What can be treated in this setting?
The clinic aims to provide quality, convenient care for non-emergent conditions. It provides an option for the uninsured or underinsured. If your needs are beyond our scope, you will be referred to a different healthcare provider.

5. What if I need a prescription?
Pharmacists now have the authority to prescribe when appropriate. Prescriptions can be filled at Sumpter Pharmacy or sent to any other pharmacy of your choice.

6. Is telehealth an option?
Yes, for patients 18 and older who reside in Iowa, if appropriate. Some circumstances may require an in-person visit.
