Dr. Toni Sumpter
Toni has spent the last 20 years in community pharmacy serving the public and helping people understand their medications. A native Iowan, Dr. Toni earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Iowa in 1984, and a doctorate in pharmacy from The University of Texas in 1986.
Her special interest in wellness and the principles of nutrition and dietary supplementation has led her to continue studies through the Nutrition Therapy Institute of Denver, Colorado, and Dr. Toni is now a Certified Nutrition Therapy Practitioner.
Her work history includes a wide variety of experiences including a residency in drug information at the Medical College of Virginia, teaching at Creighton University, providing drug information for Glaxo Pharmaceuticals, and working as associate director at the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.
Dr. Toni and her husband Dan have owned and operated Sumpter Pharmacy since 2003. They’re proud to have raised two daughters who are both pursuing careers in medicine.
Nan is a registered pharmacist who has been with Sumpter Pharmacy since 2012. Once a pharmacy owner herself, Nan is a master at providing unbeatable customer service. Her experience in long-term care also benefits our customers residing at the local care center and assisted living facility. Nan and her family live on an acreage near Adel. She has a son currently serving in the Armed Forces, a daughter in college and a daughter in middle school. When asked what she likes about working at Sumpter Pharmacy, she answered, “the incredible staff, our AMAZING customers and the variety of work.”
Jean has been WOW-ing customers with her friendly smile and can-do attitude since 2002 at Sumpter Pharmacy. Can’t find what you need in our self-treatment selections? No problem! If it’s not available, Jean will order it for you and have it the next day in most cases! Jean and her husband Laree live in Redfield and have three grandchildren who either graduated from or currently attend ADM schools.
Michelle is a long-time Adel resident and certified pharmacy technician who also serves as store manager at Sumpter Pharmacy and Wellness. Michelle will greet you by name and serve your every pharmacy need. Michelle and her husband Jerry raised two children in the ADM school district and plan to retire in Adel some day. When not working, you might find Michelle camping, working-out, or golfing when she’s not shopping or volunteering for one of several local community groups.
Laurel, is a certified pharmacy technician who’s been with Sumpter Pharmacy and Wellness since 2014. Laurel chose to fill her prescriptions at our store and that’s how we snagged her just after she arrived in the area. As a Sumpter Pharmacy customer, you’ll love Laurel’s years of knowledge in the pharmacy industry and her sense of humor and quick wit. Born and raised in Waukon, Iowa. Laurel and her family returned to Iowa from Colorado. Laurel and her husband Mark live on an acreage between Adel and Winterset.
Whitney loves to serve customers with a smile and hello as she strives to fill your prescriptions efficiently. She loves to help customers synchronize their regular medications so they have fewer trips to the pharmacy and are less likely to run out of a medicine. Whitney is also our resident fitter for Diabetic Shoes. She and her husband, Ben, live on an acreage near Marne, Iowa with their two dogs.
Allison is will be a third-year pharmacy student in Fall 2017 at Drake University with anticipated graduation in Spring 2019. You won’t miss Ally’s smiling face as she serves as a pharmacy intern at Sumpter Pharmacy and Wellness. Ally loves to provide top-notch pharmacy care as she applies in practice what she is learning in school.
Nita is also a third-year pharmacy intern from Drake who loves to apply what she is learning. No doubt you will come to love her “smiling” voice on the telephone as she responds to your prescription needs. Nita loves working in the small town of Adel, which allows her to really get to know customers on a personal leve
Michael is our youngest pharmacy intern with anticipated graduation in Spring 2020 from Drake University. Sumpter Pharmacy is his first pharmacy intern position and already he has proven to be a valuable asset to the pharmacy. With his attention to detail and caring personality, Michael will surely become an amazing pharmacist.
Emily is an honor-student at Adel High School with anticipated graduation in Spring of 2018. You will find Emily behind the cash register, the drive-thru window, or the driver’s wheel as she scoots around town with our daily customer deliveries. She works hard to make every transaction smooth and seamless which makes her seem very serious, so you might have to tease her just a bit to see her big, friendly smile.
